Specifically I was wondering if physicians are restricted to prescribing inside their own specialty and how long they can prescribe certain medication - for example, can a gynecologist prescribe antidepressants? can a psychiatrist prescribe birth control pills? Any doctor can prescribe any med as long as it is proper. Most doctors will not since they are not following every aspect of your health. A psychiatrist will not prescribe birth control because they do not know your medical history and will not be order yearly pap test and all that fun stuff.
